Pain

Which can vary from being slightly painful to be an extreme and intolerable pain, it may occur as a heartbeat that had its own pace. How it develops or presents changes if you change your posture, lying down, standing, sitting etc. It may also appear in response to a stimulus such as chewing, pressing or tapping the tooth and it can also occur spontaneously.

The factor that triggers pain can be a change in temperature as cold or hot foods or drinks although there are times when the heat from food or liquid intake increase discomfort and lessen tooth with cold drinks and even ice could lessen the pain.

The pain persists for some time that can vary from minutes to hours of intensely maintained.

Also if the pain is so intense it can wake a person from deep sleep.

The pain is sensed exactly where it appears, at other times the patient only manages to say which side of the mouth hurts without recognizing which tooth is the problem and don’t even know if it's at the top or bottom of the mouth.

Swelling or tenderness of the gums

The swelling does not occur in all cases, but may occur from very light, in which the area is normal and there is only little sensitivity, to be presented in a very pronounced way, from a small lump that the patient can feel, to a complete inflammation of the affected area extending to the face and neck.

There are occasions when the tooth will feel high in place compared to the others on the side and this is also due to inflammation.

It is very important to pay attention if there is swelling similar to a "shin" and that this produces pus from the gum because it is what is popularly known as the abscess.

Color change in the tooth

The color change in a tooth, is an indication that something is wrong in the space of the pulp; this aspect of the tooth is what makes the dentist regularly think that the tooth needs root canal treatment.

This phenomenon is very common in teeth that have experienced trauma and may manifest several years after the initial incident without showing any symptoms such as pain or swelling.
